Set on 230 acres of lush coastal farmland, the Oakdene Vineyard produces estate grown cool climate wines and Olive Grove producing Oakdene Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Our boutique vineyard is located in Wallington (near Ocean Grove) on the Bellarine Peninsula, approximately 20kms east of Geelong and 90kms South of Melbourne. The region enjoys a cool, maritime climate moderating our weather patterns, resulting in a long cool growing season; producing low yields of high quality fruit.
Oakdene has 27 acres (11.3 hectares) under vine, planted in three separate blocks, now all in full production.
Block one, planted in 2001, consists of 3 acres of Chardonnay, 3.5 acres of Shiraz and 4 acres of Pinot Noir with a mix of clones MV6, 114 and 115.
Block two, planted in 2002, consists of 5 acres of Sauvignon Blanc, and an additional 3.5 acres of Shiraz this time featuring Bests clone to compliment the PT23 planted in block one.
Block three, our most recent planting in 2008, consists of 5 acres of Pinot Gris, and a 3 acre mix of the Bordeaux varieties Merlot (1.5 acres), Cabernet Franc (0.5 acres) and Cabernet Sauvignon (1 acre), some fruit from this block was harvested for the first time in 2011.
Our vineyards produce very low yields of between 1 and 2 tonnes per acre, and all fruit is hand harvested between February and April each year.
Oakdene wines, and olive oil are available for tasting and purchase at our cellar door, open daily from 10am to 4pm.
