Bernard's Blend........
Meet Bernard of Bernard's Cabernets, one of our collective favourites.
Bernard and Liz purchased the Oakdene property in 2001 and decided it was the perfect place to plant out the first Oakdene vineyards of Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnnay. It wasn't long before additional varieties were planted with 15 rows of Merlot, 5 rows of Cabernet Franc and 2 rows of Cabernet Sauvignon added in 2008.
Bernard's red wine of choice is a dry red blend made in a traditional French style, and so the Bernards Cabernets is inspired by the red wines of Bordeaux with the vineyard blend changing to reflect each vintage. This 2017 Bernard's Cabernets is predominantly Merlot (71%) followed by Cabernet Franc (16%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (13%).
The challenge with Bernard’s Cabernets is that the labelling can confuse people into thinking the wine is a Cabernet Sauvignon….when it is very much more, a Merlot.
Our Rose has also been built around the winemaking principles of the regions in the south west of France and made in a dry, savoury style with a blend of Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. This is the third vintage of our Rose and produced entirely from our new vineyard plantings.

2017 Oakdene Single Vineyard Bernards Cabernets Deep crimson in colour with a complex bouquet of ripe mulberry and blackcurrant fruits, with some leafy notes adding freshness. Medium bodied palate, dominated by juicy red and black fruit notes, and a refreshing tobacco leaf edge. Balanced by a firm but fine tannin backbone, fresh acidity, and elegant, classic, bright red fruit characters. Drink now or cellar for 5 to 12 years. 95 points - Halliday Wine Companion 2020 '71% merlot, 16% cabernet franc, 13% cabernet sauvignon. Fine and elegant, the varieties complement each other with redcurrant, plum, cedary spice and pencil shavings amongst the aromas you can pick up on the bouquet, and a suite of similar flavours on the palate. It's long and supple with enough grip to encourage cellaring.'

2019 Bellarine Peninsula Rose Pale salmon in colour. Lifted bouquet of fresh fruits, strawberry, raspberry and cherry. Bright fruit-driven palate of strawberry and under-ripe plum notes, balanced by a dry savoury backbone, and firm acidity freshening the finish. A Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, sourced from our new vineyard in Mannerim.
