2016 Oakdene Bernard's Cabernets now available
It is nearly March already and getting so close to picking time here at Oakdene. These beautiful grapes are just one of the three varieties that make up the Bernard’s Cabernets and right now they are full, juicy and firm so are safely tucked away under nets.
Dominated by Merlot (63%) with lesser amounts of Cabernet Franc (23%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (14%), this is a really versatile wine and suited to so many different occasions and food pairings (or just enjoy it on its own!). The 2016 vintage produced fruit of high quality and small yields, so this wine is available only in limited quantities.

2016 Oakdene Single Vineyard Bernard's Cabernets $30
The sixth release of our red blend inspired by the red wines of Bordeaux, this is a blend of 63% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Franc and 14% Cabernet Sauvignon. Hand harvested and co-fermented using wild yeast and matured for 16 months in new (30%) and seasoned French oak barriques for 16 months. The vineyard is planted to 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the blend simply represents the vintage and varietal percentages change to reflect the growing conditions.
The wine is deep crimson in colour. Complex bouquet of bright mulberry and blackcurrant fruits, leafy notes and cedar oak. The palate is medium bodied, dominated by red and black currant notes, and a refreshing tobacco leaf edge. Balanced by a firm but fine tannin backbone, fresh acidity, and elegant, classic, bright red fruit characters. Enjoy now with food or cellar for 5 to 12 years.
