2018 Liz's Chardonnay

Appearance, Pale straw.

Bouquet, Complex bouquet, with notes of spicy oak, white peach, and citrus with barrel ferment characters.

Palate, Fresh and bright, with a generous mid palate weight, white peach, oatmeal and pear balanced by refreshing acidity and cedar oak contributing texture and balance.

Winemaking, Hand harvested Chardonnay was pressed and transferred to barrel for fermentation using wild yeast. Post ferment lees stirring was conducted on a fortnightly basis. The wine underwent partial (10%) malolactic fermentation, and was matured in French oak barriques (30% new) for 10 months prior to bottling in February 2019.

Conclusion, Enjoy now with food or cellar for 4 to 8 years.

2021 Halliday Wine Companion, 96 points - Stunning chardonnay! Unabashedly rich, but tensile, energetic and incredibly long. The stone fruit references and notes of dried mango are almost sublimated by a saline maritime freshness, beautifully appointed oak and Meursault-like suggestions of toasted hazelnut and curd. Oakdene's tattoo of intensity of flavour melded by quality fruit, a fine site and a deft winemaking hand. (Ned Goodwin)

4 star - Winestate Magazine, September / October  'Lemon sherbet and green apples on the slightly austere nose with funky notes.  Good length and intensity of varietal fruit flavours'.
